Doctor, heal thyself. Erin Cartwright is a psychiatrist at a hospital for girls who has her own troubled past. Now, the past that she has tried so hard to hide and ignore has caught up with her during a criminal case that she has been asked to advise on. This was a good psychological suspense book, predictable at times, but overall, the writing pulls you through. I liked the Erin character, even with her many … Read More “The Shadow Bird” »

Former in-house book editor turned stay-at-home mom who will hopefully return to the industry some day -- let me know if you hear of any openings -- but for now who reads as much as I can and reviews online, both here and on Instagram (@bookwormerin.) I love books. Reading them. Buying them. Recommending them. I was the kid whose mother had to limit the number of books I could check out from the library each week to the number of books I could physically carry home. Now, I have a husband who enables me, children who love books almost as much as I do, and a bit too much time on my hands, which I fill with reading.I’ll start off by saying that I didn’t know this was the third book in a series when I picked it up (although it did feel like background was definitely missing,) and while that might have made the serial killer aspect of this book make more sense, the focal crime wasn’t compelling enough to stand on its own. A teenager playing hooky from school hides on a construction site to sneak a cigarette and stumbles … Read More “Hush Little Baby by Jane Isaac” »
There is so much to say about this book, and I highly recommend that you take a chance on it. As a former English major, I just want to dissect and analyze the whole thing, but I’ll try to keep this short(er.) I think this is an important contemporary book, especially for right now, even as it was so emotionally difficult to get through. (And long, page count-wise, but don’t let that deter you.) On … Read More “Night. Sleep. Death. The Stars. by Joyce Carol Oates” »
This debut suspense/thriller novel has so many twists and turns, it’s hard to figure out what’s coming next, let alone what the final twist will be. Overall, it was a fun read and did a great job in not following the cookie cutter outline of so many thrillers out there right now. Lucy King takes her dog along with a few important possessions and flees from her abusive boyfriend in Brooklyn to a small cabin … Read More “All the Broken People by Leah Konen” »
I hate to admit that this was the first novel I’ve read by Katherine Center, but it won’t be my last. Sam (short for Samantha) is the librarian at a private elementary school known for top teachers and a lot of heart. Unfortunately, the founder, principal, and essence of the school, Max, dies suddenly and is replaced by uber-safety focused Duncan Carpenter. But Sam knows Duncan from her last teaching job — a job she … Read More “What You Wish For by Katherine Center” »
