Woman on the Edge was a fun (albeit dark,) couldn’t-put-it-down, suspense novel. Set in Chicago (my home town!) this story is told in chapters alternating between the points of view of Nicole and Morgan. Nicole, the founder and CEO of a wellness company called Breathe, thrusts her infant daughter into the arms of a stranger, Morgan, telling her she knows she’ll keep the baby safe, before jumping in front of a train. Morgan, who has … Read More “Woman on the Edge by Samantha M. Bailey” »

Former in-house book editor turned stay-at-home mom who will hopefully return to the industry some day -- let me know if you hear of any openings -- but for now who reads as much as I can and reviews online, both here and on Instagram (@bookwormerin.) I love books. Reading them. Buying them. Recommending them. I was the kid whose mother had to limit the number of books I could check out from the library each week to the number of books I could physically carry home. Now, I have a husband who enables me, children who love books almost as much as I do, and a bit too much time on my hands, which I fill with reading. This book is told in a dual time frame, with Elaine’s story set in London during World War II and Jen’s story set in present-day Spain. Elaine is a typist for the military, typing letters written by POWs and looking for secret messages, when she meets — and falls deeply in love with — famed )real-life) war photographer Robert Capa (aka Bobby) who travels around to photograph men on the front lines. Jen is newly … Read More “The Forgotten Girls by Lizzie Page” »

The later stories were somewhat better, and I wish they would have been moved toward the beginning of the book to encourage interest in reading to the end, but I eventually made it all the way through. Perhaps these stories struggle because of modern television detective shows–which I might be slightly addicted to–which always … Read More “The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes: A Collection of Victorian-Era Detective Stories by G. If you know anything about the Donner Party, you have a good overview of what happens in this book, although it goes on to also include what happens after the survivors arrive in California. (And if you’re not familiar with the story, a … Read More “Answer Creek by Ashley E. Sweeney” »
