I’ve never read anything by Mary Kay Andrews before, but I’ve always noted all the really good reviews that other readers write about her books, so when I had the opportunity to read this one, I didn’t want to pass it up. And even if the storyline wasn’t completely believable, it didn’t disappoint. Letty’s sister Tanya is mixed up with something and someone dangerous, so when Letty finds Tanya dead on the floor of her … Read More “The Newcomer by Mary Kay Andrews” »

Former in-house book editor turned stay-at-home mom who will hopefully return to the industry some day -- let me know if you hear of any openings -- but for now who reads as much as I can and reviews online, both here and on Instagram (@bookwormerin.) I love books. Reading them. Buying them. Recommending them. I was the kid whose mother had to limit the number of books I could check out from the library each week to the number of books I could physically carry home. Now, I have a husband who enables me, children who love books almost as much as I do, and a bit too much time on my hands, which I fill with reading. This is a book I feel very conflicted about. On one hand, I couldn’t put it down, wanting to know what happened next, and on the other, it was a particularly violent and gruesome addition to this series. Foster sisters Krystal and Nichole had a traumatic adolescence, but it’s not until adulthood that Nichole has a breakdown, tries to kill her husband, and is committed to a psychiatric hospital. Krystal, now a lawyer, tries to figure out what happened and protect her sister. Told in chapters not only alternating between their present and their past but also changing the character perspective, this twisty thriller keeps you on your toes until the end. I … Read More “The Secrets of Us by Lucinda Berry” »
Jenny Colgan never fails to write a feel-good book, usually set in Scotland, and always with a happy ending. The characters get switched up, the plot (slightly) changes, but you know that you can expect a familiar modern-day fairy tale when you pick up a Jenny Colgan book. I liked Rosie and Lillian (I usually like the female characters in Colgan’s books,) but the men (as usual) were mostly forgettable. I really didn’t like Stephen, … Read More “Sweetshop of Dreams by Jenny Colgan” »
Hollow’s Edge is a private neighborhood where not everything is at it seems. There’s the rich side and the not-quite-so-rich side of town, and everyone seems to have eyes on everyone else. Within this town, Brandon and Fiona Truett are murdered (before the book begins) and Ruby Fletcher goes to prison after her neighbors testified against her at her trial. But, her conviction is overturned and now she’s back, once again sharing the home with … Read More “Such a Quiet Place by Megan Miranda” »
