This was a fun, light-hearted romance, and if you weren’t already in the mood for the holiday season yet this year, In a Holidaze will jumpstart your desire.
Maisie is 26, working a dead-end job, and living back at home with her parents. The man she’s loved since she was 13 (Andrew) just happens to be the older brother of her best friend (Theo,) and it seems everyone thinks that Theo has feelings for Maisie. Further complicating everything is that their mothers have been best friends since college. After a disastrous Christmas with everyone (where she accidentally makes out with Theo… Oops!) Maisie asks the universe for help and suddenly finds herself caught in a time loop where she repeats the same holiday over and over. She has to figure out how to fix the mistakes she’s made without making any new ones or she’ll just keep repeating the same week of her life, and there’s only so much Christmas with family that anyone can take.
Maisie is a fun, quirky character. There’s definitely an immaturity about her as the book begins, and I had to keep reminding myself that she was only 26. My favorite character, though, was Benny, former college roommate to the two fathers, who everyone considers an uncle. I really liked that there was someone who was so supportive, respectful, and honest with Maisie and who had her back no matter what. Even the two men competing for her heart can’t make that claim.
Over all, this is a sweet romance, which isn’t a genre I read very often, but one that is refreshing when I sneak it in, and I really enjoyed this one.
