While I enjoyed the overall storyline of this book, the beginning was a bit dense and it took a bit for me to really get into and care about the characters.
Alexa is struggling as a new mother, especially with her husband away for long stretches of time at work, so after her big sister Carrie splits up from her own husband, it seems like a great idea for Carrie to move in to help out when she’s not working at the hospital as a supervising nurse. Then, two patients die under questionable circumstances, and Carrie is accused and arrested for their murder.
While I felt for Alexa (kind of,) Carrie was painted as fairly cool and calculated from the beginning, and Alexa’s husband is just kind of there (but only sometimes.) I wanted it all to work out for them, but the ending came out of left field (and I’m no sure if that was really a good thing in this case,) and all the other twists and turns weren’t as surprising as they should have been for a really good, can’t-put-it-down thriller.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. It has not influenced my opinion.
