This was a thriller with a lot of great build up, but the potential twists that I thought were coming were more interesting than what really happened.
Eva is living with her father and stepmother, helping care for her father suffering from dementia, when they get a phone call asking someone to come pick up her sister from the hospital. But Eva doesn’t have a sister. Except, apparently she does: Nancy, who was 16-years -old when she ran away after Eva was born and their mother died in labor. Eva treks out to a remote farm to care for her after she suffered a head injury. But when she gets there, Nancy isn’t who Eva expects.
This book was fine. It was a quick read. But all the characters only had one of two characteristics: They were either dangerously naive — perhaps understandable for a 16-year-old sheltered teenager, but less forgiving in a 24-year-old woman — or just downright selfish, horrible people. And, having read a lot of these thrillers now, none of these twists were surprising.
