BLOG TOUR ** Welcome to my stop on the Bookouture blog tour for The Missing Woman by Georgina Cross! This is a quick read filled secrets and lots of twists and turns.
Erica, a single mother, and her best friend Tish, take their kids to the pool for the 4th of July – along with what seems like everyone else in their community. She’s kind of a mess – schlepping a cooler, towels for the kids, toys, and sunscreen, and they’re a bit late in the day to get good lounge chairs (or any chairs at all.) It’s a stark contrast from Sabine Miller and her crew, with their matching accessories, wealthy husbands and giant homes on the other side of the golf course. Sabine’s crew would never have anything to do with Erica and her friends – they’re all too different. However, when Sabine leaves the pool before the fireworks even begin and gives Erica a pointed look across the pool, Erica is caught off-guard. And when Sabine doesn’t return, and her husband finds their back door smashed open and Sabine’s blood everywhere, everyone’s a suspect and everyone has a secret they don’t want to share…
This one definitely draws you in and makes you want to keep reading. I really liked how the author wrote some chapters from earlier points in time to show the reader the characters’ histories and motivations, instead of just having a character tell us in a random conversation. And the pacing between the chapters set in the present and those in the past was spot on and really left me not wanting to put this book down. I did guess at least part of one of the big twists at the end, but definitely did not figure out the whole thing, which was a nice change since so many of the thrillers out there right now are very predictable, at least if you read enough of these (or watch enough Law & Order to know the usual formula.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from Bookouture and NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. It has not influenced my opinion.
